Clifford Earl Grant, 85, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, at a local nursing center. The family will receive friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 14, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Ulan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Clifford Grant was born on Dec. 4, 1933 in Ulan to Elidge and Hattie Bell (Rockholt) Grant. Clifford grew up in the Ulan area and has lived in the county all his life. He married Barbara Jean (Ross) Grant and they have lived in McAlester since 1999, after living in Indianola for a number of years. In addition to being a farmer, Clifford worked as a supervisor for Rucker Ross Construction and Sellers Construction, mainly building and remodeling water and sewer treatment plants. Clifford loved people and loved to help people, whatever the need might be. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and rarely missed a basketball game at Indianola. He was a member of the Victory Park Baptist Church.
Clifford is survived by his wife, Barbara Grant of the home; 2 daughterws and a son-in-law, Sonya Davis of McAlester and Ronda and John Shirley of Indianola; grandchildren and spouses, Justin and Amanda Shirley, Kaci and Bubba Terry, Keli and Nathan Willig, Chris and Dena Shirley; nine great grandchildren, Wylie Hunter, Mackenzie Shirley, Cooper Mitchell, Maci Mitchell, Clayton Shirley, Tayte Willig, Kynleigh Terry, Carson Shirley and Layni Willig; 1 great great grandson, Kash Shirley; a sister, Maxine McCelland; sisters-in-law, Betty Grant, Ada Grant, Helen Medley, Claudine Clemons; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Lafe Rogers. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lula Dickens, Coleta McCelland and Jane Turpin; and brothers, Ules, Alvin, Scott, Clint, Elidge, Clyde and Melvin.
