Nancy M. Polk Baker, 76, passed away on December 5, 2019 at her home in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She was born January 2, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Dr. Raymond W. and Virginia Ross Polk. She grew up in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where she attended all 12 years of school, and graduated in 1961.
Nancy married James E. Lentz on June 23, 1962, and they raised two sons (Mark and Chad) in Fort Scott, Kansas. On February 12, 1994, she married Benny “Ben” Frank Baker and relocated to Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 2005. Also preceding her were her parents, her sister, Mary Wheeler, and stepson Kurt Baker.
After graduating from high school, Nancy and Jim relocated to Fort Scott, Kansas, where they raised their two sons. While in Fort Scott, Nancy worked for the Board of Education office for USD#234. They later moved to Great Bend, Kansas, where she worked at Barton County Community College. Nancy, then moved back to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she worked and retired from Tulsa Scottish Rite in 2005. It was her great joy to be connected with the Masonic Organization and a wonderful group of Masons, who became special friends.
Following retirement, she started to volunteer for Hospice. Being able to visit hospice patients and help make their last days as happy and comfortable as possible brought her great pleasure. Nancy enjoyed spending time with friends and traveling to see new places. She treasured time with her children, grandchildren, and most recently with her great grandson.
She is survived by her children Mark Allen Lentz and wife Janet, of Topeka, KS; Joseph Chad Lentz and wife Laura, of Henderson, Nevada; grandchildren Janae Lentz Adams and husband Tucker of Topeka, KS; Jordyn Lentz Brulez and husband Charlie of Wellsville, KS; Joshua Lentz of Grandview, MO and Matthew Lentz of Olathe, KS; and great grandson Wesley Cole Brulez. Dr. Richard and Linda Polk, her brother and sister-in-law, of Tulsa OK; Gary Wheeler, brother-in-law, of Coweta, OK. Lori Baker Weaver step-daughter and husband Mark of Sand Springs, OK; Shelia Baker step-daughter-in-law of Sand Springs, OK; step-grandchildren Ben and Jenny Weaver of Owasso, OK; Megan and Tony Durham of Tulsa, OK; Katie Weaver of Tulsa, OK; Braden Baker of Sand Springs, OK; step-great grandchildren Grace, Bella, and Hudson Weaver and Brooklyn Durham; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews; along with her special friend, Ron Brooks.
Services will be held at Mobley Groesbeck Funeral Home, 211 East Broadway, Sand Springs, OK, with Rev. Roy L. Betz officiating.
Burial will be at Woodland Memorial Park, 1200 N Cleveland Ave., Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
